The Modernist Infusoria: The Microorganisms that have Shaped Modern Culture and Thought

Robyn Braun is a science writer in Alberta, Canada. Her work has appeared in Discover, Scientific American and New Scientist. At the Linda Hall she will research a project entitled, Modernist Infusoria, an illustrated popular non-fiction book that documents the microorganisms that have had significant and profound effect on the development of western science, culture and thought, as well as the ways in which these organisms continue to be integrated to our way of life.

Robyn holds a PhD in Sociology from Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada and won the Senate Medal for Outstanding Academic Achievement at the Doctoral Level. She was a postdoctoral fellow at the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science where she simultaneously held a postdoctoral fellowship from the Social Sciences and Humanities Council of Canada. She owns Robyn Braun Science Communications and works as Research Communications Officer in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Alberta. She is currently at work on three novels, each about the love lives of scientists.
