METS Initiative for Teachers

The Linda Hall Library of Science, Engineering & Technology is pleased to announce that the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation has awarded a five-year grant to the Library to provide new science education programs and needed materials to secondary school teachers in the Kansas City metropolitan area and beyond.

The grant of $102,850 will support the Library's METS (Mathematics, Engineering, Technology and Science) Initiative for Teachers, comprised of three projects.

STAR (Student and Teacher Area of Resources) Collection Initiative. This special collection includes print and digital curriculum materials that support inquiry-based learning, student participation in science fairs and competitions and science career explorations.

METS Brunch & Learn Lecture Series. Experts in the field of science education will speak on two stimulating topics per school year-- one in February and one in November. Metropolitan area science teachers will have the opportunity to gain skills and knowledge over lunch at the Linda Hall.

The Linda Hall Library will present two dynamic and informative speakers each academic year to teachers, professors, librarians, administrators, and other stakeholders in the delivery of mathematics, engineering, and technology (METS) education to middle and high school students in the Kansas City metropolitan area.

ASM Materials Camp for Teachers. This free weeklong training will bring high school teachers to the UMKC campus each summer for hands-on training about materials science and how to teach it. The first camp will be June 16-20, 2008.
