Second Saturday Conversation: MECA Challenge

The exhibition galleries and the William N. Deramus III Cosmology Theater will be open 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 14. Free admission and parking. Reference, research, and circulation services are not available on Second Saturdays.
The Library will host a MECA Challenge on Saturday, November 11, co-sponsored with the Kansas City Startup Foundation, Rockhurst High School, and St. Teresa’s Academy. Ten six-person teams of students will be proposed a challenge question, then work with adult mentors to solve the problem. The students will pitch their solution to a team of expert judges only a few hours after hearing the challenge.
The public is invited to attend the pitch session from 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. The event is free, but please sign-up for e-tickets at the link below. Doors will open at 1:15 for the public.
About the MECA Challenge
MECA stands for “Most Entrepreneurial Community in America.” The MECA Challenge, a program of the Kansas City Startup Foundation, is a one-day innovation competition that pushes students and teachers to build an entrepreneurial mindset, collaborate with Kansas City innovators, and create solutions for real-world problems.
The event is free and open to the public; however, e-tickets are required.
Parking is free in Library parking lots and along the west side of Holmes Street between 51st and 52nd streets. The main entrance to the Library grounds is on Cherry Street. The Linda Hall Library is not affiliated with UMKC. Parking in all UMKC lots is by permit or meter. Doors open at 10 a.m.
