Welcome to:Paper Dinosaurs, 1824-1969An Exhibition of Original Publications From the Collections of the Linda Hall LibraryThe Linda Hall Library is now presenting an exhibition of original printed materials related to the history of dinosaur discovery. On view are most of the classic papers of dinosaur lore, including the original publications of Gideon Mantell, Richard Owen, Othniel Marsh, and a host of others. The focus of the exhibition is on images, both of discovery and of restoration. The exhibition runs from October 17, 1996 through April 30, 1997. What follows is a hypertext catalog of the exhibition. It proceeds through all forty-nine items of the exhibition, but includes links to thirty-five more works that could not be accomodated in the exhibition hall. There are 136 original images.A printed exhibition catalog is also available. It has a one-page entry on each of the 49 exhibited items and contains 53 illustrations. Links to additional works are scattered through the text. If you get lost on one of these side treks, you may click on the Contents button, which will take you to a linked list of all the works in order of exhibition, or the Index button, which links to an alphabetical list. The Index is also a complete bibliography of all exhibited items. Finally, there is an Exit button that will allow you to leave at any time. We hope you will experience Paper Dinosaurs through all three media: by viewing the materials first-hand, by reading the printed catalog, and by browsing the Web online catalog. Each provides a different perspective on the history of dinosaur discovery.
