The Horse vs. the Truck
1913
With the development of the automotive engine, horse power was no longer needed. In the early 20th century, this new mode of power and transportation quickly took over. Here we see a new truck giving a demonstration of the huge load it can pull. The early promoters of the automotive engine compared the costs and the benefits of each type of power. The truck cost about half as much as a horse to operate per mile and could provide many more trips per day.
