A LEGACY OF SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY
Horticulture

Year 1000
During the Islamic period, the 7th through the 15th centuries, agriculture became increasingly sophisticated with the introduction of food crops such as rice, sugar, oranges and lemons. These foods were brought into Spain around the year 1000. The new crops did more than feed people. As crops were introduced to Spain, rakes, picks, hoes and other new agricultural tools were introduced to work them.
