A LEGACY OF SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY

The Orange as a Crop
1925
Land owners quickly realized the potential for oranges and other citrus in the warm climate areas of the new world and began cultivating groves. By the late 19th century, citrus fruits had become an important crop in California, Florida and Texas as a dessert fruit. In the 1920s, orange juice became a popular beverage and the demand for the production of orange crops rapidly increased.
