A LEGACY OF SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY

Ceramic Engineering
Today
Twentieth century technological developments in ceramics have been more concerned with engineering than with craft. Ceramic materials are used to make porcelain electrical insulators, to create silica-fiber blankets to shield fuel on the Space Shuttle and to make light weight durable engines. Ceramic engineers today work in communications, electricity, and materials sciences. The patent drawing shown here is from a patent issued on June 1, 1999 and protects an invention regarding an improved strength ceramic material.
