A LEGACY OF SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY
Water Power

Year 1000
Windmills and watermills were used for milling grain, processing sugar cane and raising water for irrigation in the Islamic world. Around the year 1000, mills were used widely in western Europe, China and Iran. The Domesday Book, William the Conqueror's survey of England in 1086, found 5624 watermills in operation in Britain.
