Astronomischer Bilder-Atlas is a collection of engraved plates published sometime around 1870 by W. Nitzschke of Stuttgart, Germany. They are a German translation of a set first published in England by James Reynolds in 1850. Although no artist is credited on this German edition, the English edition identifies John Emslie as the artist and engraver. The cards include charts intended to demonstrate various principles of astronomy.
Beginning with Chart I, there are six charts which feature cut out shapes with colored tissue paper backgrounds. These plates were designed to resemble the night sky when held in front of a light source. This web edition includes a simulated view, representing how these charts would look if held up to a light. There is also an option to see the back or tissue side of the cards.
