Kornelius Reissig was an Associate Member of the Russian Academy Sciences in St. Petersburg. He published a variety of works on mechanics, statics, barometrics, as well as a manual on painting. Sozviezdiia Predstavlennyia na XXX Tablitsakh is both rare and beautiful, and is the earliest Russian star atlas. This volume contains 30 engraved plates, an engraved title to the plates section, two engraved sectional titles, and one engraved plate showing the magnitudes of the stars.
The plates are based on the 1806 edition of Bode's atlas, which is itself based on the earlier French edition of Flamsteed's atlas. This book contains a number of constellations that are now obsolete including Custos Messium in honor of the astronomer Charles Messier. A translation of the title page reads: Presentation of constellations in 30 tables with description and guide to finding them comfortably in the sky : composed for educational institutions and amateur astronomers. The call number for this book at the Linda Hall Library is QB65 .R44 1829 folio and it is located in the Rare Book Room.
