Johann Natterer

Johann Natterer, an Austrian naturalist and explorer, was born Nov. 9, 1787. In 1817, Natterer was selected to join a Viennese expedition to Brazil. The occasion was the marriage between the Austrian archduchess Maria Leopoldina and Dom Pedro, son of the King of Portugal, then residing in Rio de Janiero.
