Apollo 11 Memory

I have many, many, memories of the 1st moon landing, because I grew up in Wapakoneta, Ohio, the boyhood home of Neil Armstrong. I watched the landing at our home in Wapakoneta, which was about a block away from the home of Neil’s parents, Steve and Viola Armstrong. Of course, the town was tremendously excited about the entire space program; there were news media personnel all over and they even had a 100-foot tower in the Armstrong’s backyard to broadcast direct from the Armstrong house.

I was just home visiting Wapakoneta for the July 4 holiday, and the town is also gearing up for the 50-year celebration. There is a Neil Armstrong Museum in Wapakoneta and they have just recently completely refurbished an aircraft that Neil flew during his test pilot days before becoming an astronaut.
