The Grandeur of Life
The Grandeur of Life: A Celebration of Charles Darwin and the Origin of Species – 92 pp. with 119 color illustrations, 9″ x 8″, soft cover, ISBN: 978–0–9763590–5–0.
In 2009, we celebrate both the bicentennial of Darwin’s birth and the 150th anniversary of the publication of his great work. On the Origin of Species, published when Darwin was fifty years old, in 1859, was destined to radically change our view of the living world. “There is grandeur in this view of life,” Darwin wrote in the last sentence. This exhibition captures some of this grandeur by showcasing the tradition out of which Darwin himself evolved, and by displaying some of the most beautiful and intellectually important books of natural history published in the four centuries before Darwin.
